The Beginnings of Women's Football in Switzerland (70s)
The first Swiss women's international football match recognised by FIFA and the SFA was played against France in Basel on 7 May 1972 and ended in a 2-2 draw. However, two years earlier, on 8 November 1970, an international match was played between the Swiss women's national team and the Austrian national team in Schaffhausen. However, this match is not listed in the chronicles as an official international match because opponents Austria fielded two players with Yugoslavian passports at the time. An international women's football tournament was also held in Zurich in 1970. The first women's football club was the DFC Zurich and was founded on 21 February 1968. Before that, there were many grassroots tournaments in which women's teams played. (luk/klt)
