Swiss Winter Relief - retrospective
Swiss Winter Relief was founded in 1936 in the wake of the Great Depression to support people in acute need during the harsh winter months. From the outset, this assistance was also financed through nationwide fundraising campaigns in which Winter Relief badges were sold and monetary as well as in-kind donations were collected. Over the decades, what began as seasonal emergency aid developed into a nationwide relief organization for people affected by poverty in Switzerland. Today, the organization provides direct financial and material support, highlighting that poverty remains a lasting social issue even in a wealthy country. (luk)
