Introduction of censorship in Switzerland (1939)
Even though mail traffic continues normally, various authorities occasionally control mail inside Switzerland and letters directed to other countries. Conspicuous shipments are forwarded to the Political Police, who is authorized to open them. The press is also monitored, as well as telephone calls and telegraphs. Persons classified as dangerous may be placed on a backlist, prohibiting them from sending letters and refusing delivery to them. (dv)
