Paul Scherrer (1890-1969)
The Swiss physicist Paul Scherrer becomes professor at ETH Zurich at the age of 30 in 1920. Under his leadership, the Institute of Physics at ETH Zurich focuses its research on nuclear physics. Scherrer is active in various institutions and committees for the dissemination of nuclear energy in Switzerland and was involved in the founding of CERN in 1954. The Paul Scherrer Institute PSI for Basic Research in the Natural and Engineering Sciences in the Canton of Aargau is named after him. (axa
