Founding of the Basel Mission (1815) 200th Anniversary
My great-grandfather Carl Hüttinger (1848-1914) travelled to India in 1876 as a young man on behalf of the Basel Mission - supporting association of today's Mission 21 - to build a brickworks next to the mission station as an engineer. Together with his wife Mina he stayed there until 1890. In addition to many anecdotes, a leather-bound tome has been preserved from this period, which depicts the missionary activity in the Mangalore area in the southern Indian state of Karnataka in large-format photo prints. We iinvite you to take part in this very personal adventure of a Basel missionary in the British crown colony of India. (luk)
