Turkey war against Kurds
Turkey began its military operation in north-eastern Syria on Thursday, 9 October 2019 - together with pro-Turkish rebels against the Assad regime in Damascus. This was announced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday. The operation targets the Kurdish YPG militia. He should eliminate the "terrorist threat" at the Turkish border and create peace. Erdogan also wrote that the joint deployment with the Syrian National Army should create a "security zone" to facilitate the return of Syrian refugees. The Syrian National Army is the new name of an association of Syrian rebel groups fighting alongside the Turkish armed forces. The creation of the "security zone" was agreed with the USA in August. The Syrian Kurds had previously announced a general mobilization of their troops. In view of the increasing threats by Turkey and its Syrian "mercenaries", all are called upon to go to the border to resist in these "critical historical moments", a statement said on Wednesday. Kurds all over the world were called upon to demonstrate against the offensive. (Keystone-SDA)
