Switzerland Bergsturz Randa (1991)
On 18 April 1991, the first of three successive landslides occurred between Randa and Herbriggen in the canton of Valais. The catastrophe did not claim any lives, but 35 sheep and seven horses were killed and large parts of the hamlet of Lerch with 33 agricultural buildings and holiday homes disappeared forever. After heavy thunderstorms in the summer of 1991, the Vispa, which had been dammed by the debris, formed a lake that flooded large parts of Randa. (es)
