SKIN LESION DIAGNOSIS
Skin lesion diagnosis. Computer screen displaying a close-up image of a mole on a patient's skin. The SIAscope (spectrophotometric intracutaneous analysis scope) is a portable dermatoscopy device to aid diagnosis of skin disorders. It uses visible and infrared wavelengths of light to obtain pictures of the skin, which are processed by computer to produce instant SIAgraphs of the skin components, for example melanin content, blood supply and collagen content. Various skin disorders, including cancers, psoriasis and photodamage, may be diagnosed. The SIAscope is quick, harmless and non-invasive. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/TRACY DOMINEY)
