A MILLION SHILLINGS
AL-KHARAZ, YEMEN- APRIL 2008.Coming to Yemen when he was just a baby, fourteen year old Mohamed Noor had already lost one toe after being injured during a firefight in his home town of Kismayo in southern Somalia. Now along with his six siblings and widowed mother Asri, he lives in a graffiti covered room of an abandoned military building in Al-Kharaz camp. Without a father, Mohamed and his family are considered Òat riskÓ and are hoping to be re-settled to a third country; a process that could take years. Having spent almost his whole life growing up in the confines of refugee camps, Mohamed's only escape are his pet birds. He brings down from the roof to play with when he gets depressed.
