The Baltic Way took place on August 23, 1989 to mark 50 years since the Stalinist Soviet Union and Nazi Germany signed the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact. During the campaign, citizens of the three Baltic states - about two million people - held hands to form a human chain from Vilnius to Tallinn.
