ARTWORK OF TIME-COMPRESSION.
Time-compression. Conceptual artwork of time- compression due to travel at close to the speed of light, showing a bright light on a clock face. This effect was described in Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity. He showed that time is not absolute but depends on the relative motion of the observer and that which is being observed. Time will pass more quickly to a stationary observer compared to someone in motion. This phenomena, known as relativistic time dilation, is negligible until the speed of light is approached. Einstein later showed that time and space are different dimensions of the same thing, space-time, which could be warped by gravitational fields. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO/Erich Schrempp) === ===
