ERSTER WELTKRIEG FRANKREICH SCHLACHT AN DER SOMME 1916
The fighting has moved on and the British troops dug into trenches around the ruined town of St. Pierre Divion. At least they can relax a little and clean their equipment, caked with mud from the flooded Ancre Valley. After a five month campaign the Allies had gained seven miles of territory at a cost of over a million dead. (KEYSTONE/CAMERA PRESS/STR) === ; ===
