COMPUTER "ENIAC"
[Stockbild] ENIAC digital calculator. Technicians connecting the wiring of the ENIAC device built in Pennsylvania in 1943-46. ENIAC stood for the Electronic Numeric Integrator And Calculator. Although not a true computer, it is considered the second general purpose electronic calculator (after the British COLOSSUS). Designed by John Atanasoff and John Mauchly, ENIAC was originally intended for use in ballistics calculations. The wiring was used to create circuits between ENIAC's 18,000 valves, thus changing its 'program'. A true computer uses an electronically- stored program system.
