VULKAN AETNA STROM
[S 7196] Lava flow. View of a large lava flow on Mount Etna at night. This photograph was taken after the eruption in 1992. This was a major eruption, and the lava flows were extensive. Lava is molten rock forced out of cracks in the earth by pressure from magma (subterranean lava) beneath it. Etna is a very active volcano, and has erupted several times in recent history. It lies on the island of Sicily, Italy. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/BERNHARD EDMAIER) === === [Stockbild-Archiv]
