WELTRAUM RAUMFAHRT APOLLO 11
Apollo 11 astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin performed the first manned lunar landing on 20 July, 1969. Here Buzz is deploying the Solar Wind Collector, a foil sheet which he is pointing at the Sun. At the end of the EVA, after leaving the SWC exposed to the Sun for about 1 hour and 17 minutes, Buzz will roll up the foil and pack it in a bag for analysis back on Earth. Note the considerable clearance between the bottom of the Descent Engine bell and the surface beneath it. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO/NASA)
