JAPAN WELTKRIEG PEARL HARBOUR 1942
A Taoist priest sets off a string of firecrackers on the tail of a two-man Japanese submarine, aka "Tojo Cigar," as it moves down a street in the Chinatown section of San Francisco, Calif., Oct. 29, 1942. This is the start of a nationwide tour of the sub, promoting the sale of war bond for the U.S. Treasury Department. The sub was captured at Pearl Harbor under the personal direction of Captain Eugene Wilson of the Army Air Corps, who was inspector general of the Hawaiian Air Force when the Japanese attacked. The crackle, bang and smoke of the firecrackers heralds the departure of "devils" from underwater craft. (AP Photo)
