RUSSLAND ST. PETERSBURG FEBRUARREVOLUTION
Students and soldiers in Petrograd (today known as St. Petersburg) take aim at police snipers, hundreds of whom hid on flat rooftops, firing at the revolutionary crowds below on February 1917. 1917 was a year of social unrest for Russia, following severe food shortages after the first World War, that brought demonstrations and riots to the streeets of Petrograd. This turned into the October revolution, in Autumn that year, as the Bolshevik's (led by Vladimir Lenin) came into the city and overturned the Government, taking over all the Palaces and official buildings in the city. Petrograd, re-named St Petersburg in 1991, was founded on May 16, 1703. (KEYSTONE/CAMERA PRESS/John Massey Stewart) === , ===
