CIVIL RIGHTS PROTEST
William Mathis, lower right, Philadelphia chapter chairman of CORE, gestures as he talks to a group of demonstrators picketing the main post office in Philadelphia, July 13, 1966, protesting alleged discriminatory practices of the local post office. About 100 city policemen were sworn in as deputy U.S. marshals to give them jurisdiction on federal property. Two paddy wagons of demonstrators were taken to jail after they blocked an entrance to the building. No injuries were reported. (AP Photo) (KEYSTONE/AP/)
