ZWEITER WELTKRIEG DEUTSCHLAND ZERSTOERTE STAEDTE
In this photo from British Official Photo, a month before the Normandy landings, Mosquito aircraft of bomber command laid mines in the Kiel Canal, the most heavily defended waterway in the world, pictured July 6, 1944. As a result it was estimated that not less than one million metric tons of cargo to and from overseas and about half that amount of coastwise cargo was held up. Air view is of the Kiel Canal, made by RAF reconnaissance aircraft. (KEYSTONE/AP Photo/British Official Photo)
