ERSTER WELTKRIEG GROSSBRITANNIEN GESTRANDETES DEUTSCHES…
Beached German submarine at Hastings, Sussex, UK, 1919. This is SM U-118, a mine-laying submarine that served during World War I (1914-1918). U-118 was launched in February 1918. It operated in the Eastern Atlantic, and sunk two British vessels before the end of the war in November 1918. U-118 was being towed to France, where it was to be broken up, when it ran aground during a storm. The submarine became a popular tourist attraction before being broken up.
