The Gotthard Base Tunnel consists of two 57-kilometres-long single-track tubes. It joins the north portal at Erstfeld to the south portal at Bodio. Der Gotthard Basistunnel besteht aus zwei 57 km langen Einspurroehren. Er verbindet das Nordportal in Erstfeld mit dem Suedportal in Bodio. Mit dem Bau der neuen Eisenbahn-Alpentransversale (NEAT) entsteht eine schnelle und leistungsfaehige Bahnverbindung. Die neue Gotthardbahn ist eine Hochgeschwindigkeitsstrecke auf welcher Reisezuege mit Spitzengeschwindigkeiten bis zu 250 km/h werden verkehren koennen. (KEYSTONE/Gaetan Bally)
