An airplane loaded with the pesticide Gesarol flies over a May bug infested forest, photographed in May of 1948 in Payerne, canton of Vaud, Switzerland. The may bug, also called doodlebug or cockchafer, infested many regions and became a major pest during the years of «mass flight» in the middle of the 20th century. The chemistry company J.R. Geigy AG and the ETH University are experimenting with a new method of applying the pesticide in larger areas. (KEYSTONE/PHOTOPRESS-ARCHIV/STR)
