2850-15 Miles Davis. Obligatory Credit - CAMERA PRESS/Marc Sharratt. Legendary and innovative jazz trumpeter, Miles Davis was born in Alton, Illinois on 26 May 1926. His career spanned 50 years and his music underwent many creative changes; his trumpet was his primary instrument, but he was also a highly proficient on the piano/organ and led his band as a composer. Among his famous recordings is 'The Birth of Cool'. He died on 28 September 1991 in California. On 26 May 2001, Davis would've celebrated his 75th birthday, and to commemorate the jazz legend, the record label, Columbia Legacy Jazz, are to release a series of restored albums throughout 2001.
