The UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has warned that several poor countries, including Yemen, which depend heavily on wheat and grain imports risk suffering significant food price spike and food insecurity because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. War-ravaged Yemen relies heavily on both Russia and Ukraine for its wheat supply as its total domestic wheat production contributes less than 10 percent of all utilization needs. Yemen has been experiencing an already sharp deterioration of its economy due to soaring cost of food since the escalating conflict erupted in March 2015, leaving over 80 percent of the poorest Arab country's 30-million population in dire need of immediate humanitarian assistance.
