A deal brokered by Turkey and the United Nations to ensure the safe export of grain from Ukrainian ports expired on 17 July 2023 and Russia withdrew from the deal allowing Ukraine to safely export grain through the Black Sea. The war in Ukraine, which started when Russia entered the country in February 2022, marked in July its 500th day.
