Photograph of award winning German actress, producer, writer and director Leni Riefenstahl. Born Berta Helene Amalie Riefenstahl on 22nd August 1902 in Berlin, she first began acting after being spotted by director Arnold Fanck. She went on to star in a number of movies; the 1920s and 1930s was the most prolific of her acting career. She has also written, directed, produced and starred in her 1932 movie 'Das Blaue Licht' ('The Blue Light'). However her career was to be marred by her documentary of Adolf Hitler in 1934, entitled 'Triumph des Willens' ('Triumph of Will') which audiences saw as propaganda. But in her acclaimed 1954 German movie 'Tiefland' in which she directed and starred, 'Tiefland' is thought to be her personal cinematic statement against Hitler and Nazism. In 2000, she completed a documentary film and has also sold the biography rights to a German film company. (KEYSTONE/CAMERA PRESS/Dalmas) === , ===
