Lindsey Vonn (*1984)
Lindsey Caroline Vonn, born October 18, 1984 in Saint Paul, Minnesota, is an American ski racer. She is one of the best athletes in alpine skiing and became overall World Cup winner in the 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10 and 2011/12 seasons. In addition, she has won a World Cup discipline classification 16 times. She is the Olympic downhill champion and has won two gold, three silver and two bronze medals at world championships so far. Vonn starts in all disciplines, she is most successful in downhill. Since October 2011 Vonn also belongs to the small circle of runners who celebrated World Cup victories in all five disciplines. With 82 successes to date, she is the most successful female ski racer in World Cup history. With her 63rd victory on 19 January 2015, she surpassed Annemarie Moser-Pröll's 35-year record and took the lead in the women's World Cup's eternal list of best skiers. On Friday, 12 October 2018, Vonn announced her resignation at the end of the season. (wp)
