ISRAEL JERUSALEM PASSAH
Ultra-Orthodox Jews throw bread (C) and other products containing leavening, or 'hametz,' into a bonfire in the Mea Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem on Wednesday, 12 April 2006 as they purify their homes for the high Jewish holiday of Passover, which begins tonight at sundown. The week-long holiday commemorates the Jews' exodus from Egypt as they wandered through the desert to the Promised Land, and all traces of leavening must be removed from religious homes and burnt before sundown.
