TSCHECHOSLOWAKEI DEMONSTRATION JAN PALACH
Czech university student Jan Palach set himself on fire in Wenceslas Square in Prague on January 16, 1969, as a political protest against the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia. His funeral turned into a major mass protest against the occupation. Another student Jan Zajic burned himself to death in the same place on February 25, 1969, followed by Evzen Plocek in Jihlava in April 1969.
