The residential space around Dhaka city is expanding rapidly. To cater for the growing construction industry a large number of new brickfields have come into existence. At present in Bangladesh there are 8000 brickfields in operation. Every day brick field workers work from dawn to dusk for a daily wage of TK 100-115 (US$1.25). Most of the workers are migrants from different parts of the country especially from the northern districts. Since this is a seasonal occupation they work for only six months in the dry season.
