During the hostilities, up to 70 percent of the housing stock of Mariupol was destroyed and about 5,000 civilians were killed due to fighting and shelling, Konstantin Ivashchenko, the new mayor of the city, said. City authorities prepare residential buildings for winter and change all central heating systems in Mariupol, where by the end of the year at least 1,000 residential buildings, social and cultural facilities will be connected to heat, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin. The government of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) reported that 129,000 square meters of new housing will appear next year in Mariupol.
