Damien Roux (39 yrs), fisherman, hauls in the end of his fishing net by hand aboard his family's pointu (traditional type of wooden fishing boat from the coast of Provence) in the bay of Villefranche-Sur-Mer, France, 15 October 2022. Small fish under a certan size are sorted by hand immediately and thrown back alive into the sea. Most of the fish caught by the Roux and other coastal fishermen in the region are migratory; the catch changes depending on the season, with the scantest pickings in summer. Stock of the traditional species of sedentary fish found on the rocky Provencal coast (e.g. scorpion fish, 'rascasse', or red mullet, 'rouget') have dwindled to extremely small numbers today.
