DEUTSCHLAND RICARDA HUCH
The German authoress and historian Ricarda Huch shown in an undated picture. She was born on July 18, 1864 in Braunschweig as the daughter of a rich Brazilian merchant. Ricarda Huch studied philosophy and history. In 1891 her first story "Die Goldinsel" (the gold island) was published. Her first verses were also published around this time. On July 18, 1891 she finished her studies and became a doctor. In the following years she wrote novels and gave lectures. In 1931 she received the Goethe Prize of Frankfurt. In 1944 she planned to write a book about the German resistance, but was unable to finish it. She died on November 17, 1947 in Schoenberg, Germany, and was buried in Frankfurt.
