The photo from the "Leipziger Illustrirte Zeitung" (Leipzig Illustrated Newspaper) shows soldiers who have lost their legs in World War One (1914-1918) at a walking school for the war injured at the First War Hospital in Budapest, Hungary. After initial treatment at the military hospital on the front, the wounded were transported on medical trains back to their homeland, where they received further treatment. The original photo-caption reads: "Walking practice Austro-Hungarian soldiers with prostheses (artificial limbs) in the orthopedic clinic run by Professor Bela Doliger at the First War Hospital in Budapest."
