EMISSION NEBULA
N44C emission nebula. Melipal Very Large Telescope image of an energetic emission nebula around the star N44C. Colours correspond to emission from ionised gases: hydrogen (red), oxygen (green) and helium (blue). Helium emission indicates that the star causing the emission is very hot. This is an unusual nebula, as the two stars powering it are not hot enough to account for helium emission. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/EUROPEAN SOUTHERN OBSERVATORY)
