SUPERMARKET CHAIN NAGASAKIYA GOES BUST
Nagasakiya Co. President Tokuichi Kitajima, left, and Vice President Tamio Inoue meet the press in Tokyo, Feb. 13, 2000, to announce the bankruptcy of the second-tier supermarket operator listed on the first section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. Nagasakiya and three affiliates filed for protection from creditors under the corporate rehabilitation law with Tokyo District Court that day, with total liabilities of 380 billion yen, the biggest bankruptcy in the Japanese retail industry at that time.
