TYPHOON FIGHTER PLANE
Typhoon fighter plane in flight. The Eurofighter Typhoon has been developed as the most advanced fighter jet in the world. It is an aerodynamically unstable aircraft that is flown by a computerised flight control system. This allows great agility and a great degree of automation. Its two Eurojet EJ200 turbofan engines fly it at speeds of up to Mach 2. It is designed for many different weapons configurations. The Eurofighter is a joint project between the UK, Germany, Italy, and Spain. It began in 1994. The first Eurofighter Typhoons are scheduled to enter service in 2003. Photographed in 2000 at BAE Systems Warton, Manchester, UK. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/CHRIS SATTLBERGER)
