WWI - WESTERN FRONT - GAS WARFARE 1916/17
The contemporary colorized German propaganda photo shows a gas alarm in an howitzer battery of the German artillery near the French front in 1916/17. The original contemporary picture caption reads: "Gas alarm. By pooling a large number of guns or gas launchers for raids in a small space, gas warfare could be particularly dangerous. Only the highest vigilance of gas items, good alarm devices and masks were enough security. Against the 'Yellow Cross' effect, lime and reserve clothing also had to be at the ready."
