ITALY QUAKE
An unidentified Franciscan monk, in Assisi's St. Francis Basilica shows the place where pieces of the roof had fallen down in the first jolt of a major earthquake, which struck in central Italy, early Friday September 26, 1997. Minutes after this picture was taken, a second and stronger jolt made part of the roof collapse, killing four people who were surveying the Basilica for damages. Official figures count 10 dead, 30 injured, more than 3,000 homeless and millions of dlrs estimated damage. (AP Photo/Plinio Lepri)
