CORK WOOD, SEM
Colored SEM of a wine cork. The structure of the cells can be seen. Cork is taken from the bark of the cork oak tree (Quercus suber). Cork is one of the first objects ever examined through a microscope. It was a similar specimen to this that inspired the scientist Robert Hooke to name the individual unit of an organism a "cell."
