LAUNCH OF DISCOVERY SHUTTLE, KENNEDY SPACE CENTRE
The launch of the space shuttle Discovery from Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on 13 March 1989. The highlight of mission STS-29 was the deployment of the third Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS-D), to complete the TDRS network. The three TDRS satellites will relay communications to and from Earth-orbiting satellites & spacecraft. The five shuttle crew members were: Commander Michael L. Coats, Pilot John E.
