WASP MIMIC BUSH CRICKET
Wasp mimic bush cricket (Aganacris sp.) on a leaf in the Amazon rainforest. This harmless species of bush cricket is a mimic of wasps of the genus Pepsis. These wasps hunt tarantulas, and possess a very painful sting. This is an example of Batesian mimicry. Photographed in Ecuador. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/DR GEORGE BECCALONI)
