USA SEATTLE HOMELESS
Shane Thomas, 23, homeless since 2008, waits to get into a homeless shelter in Seattle's University District on August 13, 2010. Thomas can occasionally find work as a fisherman but does not earn enough money to afford housing. Two million young adults across the nation are homeless. Each night 1000 young adults in the Seattle area are homeless. Seattle is one of the few US cities with homeless shelters for young adults, but even here they are being turned away in record numbers. Unemployment amongst young adults is at 19 percent, the highest it's been since 1948. (KEYSTONE/CAVAN IMAGES/Mike Kane)
