MODEL RELEASED. Artificial insemination (image 8 of 9). Doctor injecting semen into a woman's cer- vix during artificial insemination. This process is used when a couple cannot conceive naturally. When this process is used by a couple, it is known as AIH (artificial insemination by husband's, or life partner's, semen). The semen is analysed to check the health of the sperm cells. About three of these semen injections are performed during the most fertile period of the woman's menstrual cycle. There is around a 65 percent chance of fertilisa- tion over six months of treatment. Photographed at a clinic in Milan, Italy. For a sequence showing stages in the process, see images M802/154-162. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/MAURO FERMARIELLO) === ===
