ENLARGED SPLEEN
MODEL RELEASED. Enlarged spleen (splenomegaly) causing a bulge in the abdomen of a 70 year old woman. Her splenomegaly has been caused by non-Hodgkins lymphoma, a cancer of the lymph nodes of the immune system. The lymphoma causes white blood cells to divide abnormally and collect in the spleen and lymph nodes. This can cause splenomegaly and the enlargement of lymph nodes. Non-Hodgkins lymphoma is treated with radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Bone marrow transplants may also be required. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/DR P. MARAZZI)
