Optical image of the Fornax cluster of galaxies which lies at a distance of about 55 million light years from Earth. Spiral and elliptical galaxies are seen here. Spiral galaxies contain young, blue stars in the spiral arms and appear as narrow streaks when seen in profile. The spiral arms are clearly seen only when a spiral galaxy is viewed face-on such as NGC 1365 at bottom right. Elliptical galaxies are mainly composed of old, yellow-red stars and have a shape which may vary between a perfect sphere and a spheroid. *** THIS PICTURE MAY NOT BE USED TO STATE OR IMPLY ROE ENDORSEMENT OF ANY COMPANY OR PRODUCT *** ^BTHIS PICTURE MAY NOT BE USED TO STATE OR IMPLY ^BROE'S ENDORSEMENT OF ANY COMPANY OR PRODUCT.
