ERSTER WELTKRIEG FRANKREICH SCHLACHT AN DER SOMME 1916
Dazed and filthy but victorious British and French troops capture the ruins of St. Pierre Divion on November 13, 1916, and salvage German rifles from the mud. Heavily defended by the German in well-constructed deep bunkers, that could survive artillery barrages, the town's capture took several weeks at a cost of thousands of Allied lives and was typical of the wholesale slaughter of the Somme 1916.
