Russian President Vladimir Putin gave the order for military intervention in Ukraine on 24 February 2022. He also formulated a threat to the West, which had crossed Russia's "red line". - For years, civil war-like conditions prevailed in the east of the country between separatists loyal to Moscow and pro-European forces. An end to the conflict is not in sight. The conflicts flare up again and again. Since spring 2021, there has been a massive build-up of Russian troops along the Ukrainian border; around 100,000 soldiers are now said to be stationed there.
