Die nationalsozialistische Berichterstattung schreibt auf der Rueckseite des Bildes: "Am 30. Oktober Einweihung des Mittellandkanals. Ende Oktober wird eines der bedeutendsten Bauvorhaben der Neuzeit, der Mittellandkanal, vollendet und am 30. Oktober mit einem Festakt in Magdeburg feierlich eingeweiht werden. Der von Westfalen ueber Hannover und Braunschweig zur Elbe fuehrende Kanal findet bekanntlich am Schiffshebewerk Rothensee noerdlich von Magdeburg sein vorlaeufiges Ende. Hier wird gleichzeitig der Arm ueber den Elbstrom hinweggefuehrt. Die letzte Etappe Braunschweig-Magdeburg geht jetzt ihrer Vollendung entgegen. III. EMPIRE - SCHOOL DORMITORY SHIP "HANS SCHEMM" 1937
Das Schullandheimschiff "Hans Schemm" wird am 14.5.1937 im Hamburger Hafen fuer seine zweite Deutschlandfahrt verabschiedet. Auf der "schwimmenden Jugendherberge" sollten die teilnehmenden Schueler das Deutsche Reich besser kennenlernen. Zugleich diente das Schiff der nationalsozialistischen Gemeinschaftserziehung und Propaganda. Die nationalsozialistische Propaganda schreibt am 14.5.1937 auf der Rueckseite des Bildes: "Mit einer eindrucksvollen Abschiedsfeier wurde am 14. Mai in Anwesenheit des Reichswalters des NSLB [NS-Lehrerbund], Gauleiter Waechtler, in Hamburg das Schulheimschiff 'Hans Schemm' auf seine zweite Deutschlandfahrt geschickt, bei der es am 18. Mai in Berlin ankommen wird. An Bord befinden sich Schueler einer Hamburger Volksschule. - U.B. zeigt die feierliche Flaggenhissung im Hamburger Hafen."
