Community Soup Switzerland (1939-1945)
The community of Schwanden above Brienz set up a joint soup kitchen as a cost-saving measure during the Second World War. A soup cook cooks about a hundred litres of soup a day. The offer is used by a large part of the Schwanden population, the poor as well as the rich. At noon the school children line up with their cauldrons to pick up soup for their families. (dv)
